Peace world!! Welcome back to another love letter to Hip Hop that I call Nitty Gritty Radio. This month of May is extremely special to me because any day now my wife and I are expecting the birth of our first child. I can’t even put into words the joy and excitement that’s been coursing through my veins over the past few months! The sky seems more blue, the birds are singing louder and music sounds better to my ears than it ever has!
So for this Episode 56 Hour 1 I wanted to do a greatest hits / best of Hour 1 type of playlist. Hour 1 of the podcast is where I usually play the Golden Era Hip Hop, B Sides, Remixes and Rarities that I grew up on and hold very dear to my heart. So for this month I wanted to make the vibe extra special because this will be the episode/ playlist that’s playing when we take our son home from the hospital for the first time and I start a whole new adventure in life called fatherhood…so why not change some dippers nodding to some of my favorite Hip Hop tracks from ‘91-’97.
For the past 4 years I’ve put almost all my creative energy into this podcast. But with life changing on the horizon, Nitty Gritty Radio will have to take a back seat. Like I said in the Episode 52 intro, I’ll still be updating the podcast periodically but it won’t be on the clockwork schedule of the first Tuesday of every month. Its been a fun ride and looking back on past episodes I now see how therapeutic this podcast has been for me. For a dude that’s never kept a journal or written down any daily thoughts, when I listen to an old episode it takes me back to EVERY single emotion that I was feeling when picking out that playlist. And for music to do that is very special.

So when the news came out over the bombings that went down on Marathon Monday my heart went out to the victims and especially the city. I thought of all the good memories and AMAZING people I’ve met during my life there and then my mind went to all the amazingly talented people that Boston has produced…especially in Hip Hop music.
When Ed O.G & Da Bulldogs came out with “I Got To Have It” the whole game changed. Seeing Roxbury on Yo! MTV Raps showed everyone that you don’t have to be from New york to get some shine.
I’ve been wanting to do a Best of Boston Hip Hop playlist for a minute now and thought this is a good time as any to show my love for the city that raised me.
So here’s a chronological trip thru Boston’s Hip Hop history kicking it off with the Beantown Underground anthem, “Home”.

Peace yawl and welcome to the first podcast episode for the year 2013!! Got a lot of big life changes coming up this year so the energy and mood surrounding me lately has been high and HYPED!! Can’t wait to see and experience all of the blessing that Twenty Thirteen has in store. One of the big changes that’s going down here on Nitty Gritty Radio is that the podcast is going from a monthly format to a “when I can get one done” type of schedule.

Since the podcast started in June 2009 you could count like clockwork that on the first Tuesday of the month at midnight a new episode would be up and bumpin’ on the website. Now, with the life schedule flipping a bit it might be a little harder to do so. Not sure if you can tell but I put all my ALL into EVERY episode of this podcast. When you hear a playlist its like hearing an auditory diary for how I’m reminiscing and feeling from month to month. So to keep that same honest energy going I’ll have to scale back when new episodes come out. Trust me, there WILL be new episodes coming out in the future, you just might have to wait a little more than 4 weeks for a new one.
