Nitty Gritty Radio

Still hungover from our 3 year anniversary celebration Nitty Gritty Radio is back with another neck knocker here on Episode 45!! I have to admit, after Ep 44 I was thinking of hanging it up for bit. Not that I'm uninspired to keep doing it but I just felt I was putting too much emotional energy into each episode and maybe that should be channeled in other places. So after a whole month of feeling this way at the end of May I went away with my wife on vacation for a week and I didn't listen to one single Hip Hop track. I just chilled on a white sand beach listening to Billie Holiday, Louie Jordan, Tom Scott and loved every minute of it. When I got back to NYC it was literally back on the grind, got off the plane, into a car service, back to the crib, then revolving door'd it back out and on the F train. While on the train I decided to listen to Oddisee's "Odd Renditions" album that I D/L before the trip.....WOW!!! I'm saying it here today that "Odd Renditions" saved this podcast and gave me the kick in the ass I needed to keep it going!! When I got to "The Gold Is Mine" I played it 5 times in a row (freaked out the little kid next to me from nodding my head so hard) and decided that I HAVE to keep doing this podcast if there is Hip Hop music like this coming out. Its funny how one single song can enter your life (at the right time) and change your whole outlook. So here we are, Nitty Gritty Radio is the girl that I almost broke up with but then decided that she's just way to fine to have someone else try to kick it to her, haha.

Aiight, off the personal and back to the Hip Hop!! Episode 45 (Hour 1) has a fun concept vibe. Its like a moving sidewalk of Hip Hop history from 1989 to 1999, a decade of goodies with every year being represented. So hold on to the sides and enjoy the ride. First stop, 1989...
