Episode 39 (Hour 1)
I have to start by saying that Heavy D was one of my favorite emcees growing up. I was lucky to get introduced to Hip Hop at a very young age so as I grew so did my Hip Hop palate. In 4th grade I remember my brother playing me Heavy D and the Boyz "Nike". At the time Nike was my favorite sneaker and everyone (i.e. Run DMC and ALL of Boston) gave Adidas love and no one was reppin' Nike. Forget Michael Jordan, Heavy D saved Nike from going under in the 80's, haha...(at least in my world). So when I heard the news of his passing I took it hard and immediately started going thru my vinyl and cassette tapes for old Heavy D bangers. Maybe he wasn't the hardest of hard or the most lyrically blazing emcee to come out but I can say he did three things consistently in my book. His music made me happy, it made me dance and it helped me appreciate the different flavors Hip Hop came in.
